Tom Killion

Senator Killion Appointed to Policy Committee

I am proud to have been appointed to serve as a new member of the Senate Majority Policy Committee.

The Committee supports the members of our Caucus through research and development of ideas and initiatives. Over the years, the Committee has held numerous public hearings throughout the state on issues that are important and timely to constituents. In development of policy proposals, Members may turn ideas and strategies into legislation.

On September 15, 2016, I took part in a public hearing to receive testimony on Waterfront Development Tax Credits, and worked with Senator Dave Argall, Chair of the Committee, in holding the hearing at the Talen Energy Stadium in the City of Chester. This was a great venue to bring forth a number of individuals and groups to discuss economic redevelopment opportunities for our area.

This will be a great opportunity and I look forward to serving on this Committee

Pennsylvania Granted Real ID Extension

Effective Thursday, January 19, 2017, Pennsylvania has been granted an extension until June 5, 2017 from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to fix state law to allow for federal REAL ID compliance. The extension will allow for work to be done to resolve Pennsylvania’s noncompliance. DHS has also indicated that additional time will be granted if necessary.

I am a co-sponsor of and I support legislation that may soon be introduced in the new 2017-18 Session that would repeal Pennsylvania’s “REAL ID Nonparticipation Act”.  Until the General Assembly passes legislation to allow Pennsylvania to become REAL ID compliant, I suggest monitoring PennDOT’s website at or DHS’s website at for guidance on when a federally-approved identification is needed to access certain federal facilities and for air travel.  In the meantime, I will be sure to keep you advised of events that occur regarding the legislation.
